The front brakes on the S13 are squealing like a pig being slaughtered. The car still brakes OK, but the noise is unbearable at times. I also think the rotors are warped, and given that a lot of the parts on the car were what the car left the showroom floor with, I don't think it's a good idea to have them resurfaced. I am going to replace the front pads, front rotors, and bleed and replace the fluid. I'm not replacing the calipers. I don't have enough money to do all the brakes in one fell swoop, so I'll do the fronts for now, then I'll do the same to the rear's in a couple of weeks (barring any pressing problems that pop up).
I am planning on buying another S13 once this one's sticker expires in mid-May and I plan on removing some of the new parts I installed in the beater (like the spark plug wires and the alternator) to be put into the new S13. I'm only cannibalizing the new parts, then I'm selling the beater as a whole parts car on Ebay.
I would like to upgrade the front brakes within reason and budget. I was thinking of a combination of Hawk non-ABS front pads and PowerSlot rotors. Is this a decent upgrade? Should I just stick to OEM-standard stuff? If I get another S13 and the brake parts are still in good condition, I can switch the brake parts from one car to another, right? I know if I get an ABS-equipped 240SX, the pads won't fit, but will the rotors still be compatible? And if I don't get another S13, would selling the new parts as used on EBay or the GRM $200X forum be a good idea of recouping some money?
