this is what i use on my computer and i have been virus/tojan and spyware free for about 4 years.
i serf the web with firfox and you can tweak firfox with a program called Firetune for firefox.
for antivirus i use avast its free for home users and also its got real time scanning of the web, e-mail programs, p2p networks, instant messenger programs, internet mail, and network scanning.
for spyware i use spybot and adaware personal
for trojans use ewido, it works really well.
after your all clean get a program called spyware blaster and what it does is that it takes known bad web-pages and tweaks your registry so your computer will not display those sites.
for a firewall i use zonealarm, its free and works really good.

Cool, I'll Ask My mom if I can get those. I already have adaware and spybot but my mom says if I get a virus on the computer that's not fixable I'll have to not have a computer, so might as well get these.

I'll send those links and your suggestions to my dad. My family room computer has been plagued by pop-ups as of late. He prefers Netscape over Firefox, though, and the family room still uses 56K (damn old wiring in my house).

My dad's work computer has cable, but it's his work computer, so I can't always use it. I do most of my computing from either the family room computer or from school (like now). I used to have a 1997 Compaq POS, but the motherboard crapped out when I installed another RAM chip in a feeble attempt to speed it up.

Civic, What I ment by "not fixable" is just what you said. We had already gotten a virus on it and had to loose everything on the hard drive. Heh, the funny thing is I can't remember what I lost.
